Building Green: 20% - 25% Electricity Savings

Energy Savings: The Heat Smart Program

This geothermal energy efficient home has been entered into the Public Service of New Hampshire's Heat Smart program, which is designed to save you an additional 20% to 25% in electricity costs.

About The PSNH Heat Smart Program
Public Service of NH's HEATSMART Program provides qualifying customers with a discounted kilowatt-hour rate for their separately metered space heating (and cooling if using a heat pump) and electric water heating.

Back Up Heat Required
In exchange for the lower rate, customers agree to allow PSNH to briefly interrupt service to their heating circuits during periods of high demand for electricity. Back up heat is required and can only be one of the following: wood, pellets, coal or thermal heating units. Fossil fuel is not considered a back up heat source.

Why Are We Using A Pellet Stove?
The pellet stove is an eco-friendly product. Pellet stoves burn recycled materials and are more efficient to run than a wood stove is and are easier to maintain. Wood stoves burn cordword, so more trees are being cut down to provide fuel. Cordwood is expensive both in dollars and environmental costs.

400 Amps Service Requirement
The program requires 400 amps of service: 200 amps are for the geothermal system and 200 amps are for the house. Our energy saving house is built with two separate panels for easy accessibility.
