LEED awards a certain number of “points” to each green home it inspects. The more environmentally friendly a home, the more points it will receive. The amount of points earned by a particular home determines which certification they will be granted from the following four categories:
1. Certified
2. Silver
3. Gold
4. Platinum
Points can accumulate amongst eight different categories:
- Innovation and design
- Location and linkages
- Sustainable sites
- Water efficiency
- Energy and atmosphere
- Materials and resources
- Indoor environmental quality
- Awareness and education
An Energy Star Qualified Home
Energy Star qualified homes are independently verified to meet strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Each home that earns the ENERGY STAR can keep 4,500 pounds of greenhouse gases out of our air each year. www.energystar.gov
